rGO Powder vs rGO Dispersion: Which Should You Choose?

Buyer Guide31 December 2025

Reduced Graphene Oxide (rGO) is an important material in modern advanced carbon materials and high-performance nanomaterials research. Today, many graphene manufacturers and graphene suppliers in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia provide rGO in two common forms: rGO powder and rGO dispersion. The answer to which is better depends entirely on your application.

rGO Powder

rGO powder is the dry and highly concentrated form of rGO. It is commonly used in industrial applications such as composite and polymer reinforcement, conductive fillers, and energy storage materials. Research has shown that adding as little as 0.5–2 wt% graphene-based materials into polymer composites can improve mechanical strength by up to 30–40% and significantly enhance electrical conductivity. However, the sheets can easily agglomerate, meaning additional dispersion steps may be required before processing.

Best for: Polymer composites, conductive additives, energy storage electrodes, bulk manufacturing.

rGO Dispersion

rGO dispersion consists of rGO sheets suspended in a liquid such as water or ethanol. This form allows easier processing and uniform distribution, beneficial for coatings, conductive inks, and thin-film applications. For industries that require surface modification or coating technologies, dispersion provides better application control.

Best for: Protective coatings, printed electronics, thin films, sensor applications, anti-corrosion coatings.

Biomass-Derived rGO: A Sustainable Option

With the growing interest in sustainable graphene and biomass-derived graphene, some researchers and companies are producing graphene materials from renewable resources such as Palm Kernel Shell (PKS). This approach supports environmentally friendly production while expanding the supply of graphene materials from Southeast Asia graphene suppliers.

Ecographe supplies both forms: We provide biomass-derived rGO powder from palm kernel shell (PKS) for composites and energy storage, as well as rGO dispersions for coating and ink applications. All materials include a Certificate of Analysis with Raman and elemental data. Contact us to discuss which form suits your needs.
